More about Martha
Dr. Martha Eddy, RSMT, an esteemed international speaker and somatic movement therapy expert, holds a Doctorate in Movement Science/Biobehavioral Studies from Columbia University, where she is an honorary professor. She is a Registered Master Somatic Movement Therapist and Educator (MSMT/E) and Registered Somatic Dance Educator (RSDE).
Recognized for her dedication to social justice, Martha is the Geraldine Ferraro Fellow of Social Justice and Movement at Marymount Manhattan College. With a decade on the faculty at the School for Body-Mind Centering® and collaborations with pioneers like Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and Irmgard Bartenieff, she founded The Somatic Movement Therapy Training, later rebranded as Dynamic Embodiment® SMTT.
Her impactful literary contributions on eco-somatics, movement, the brain, and healthy living include the books Mindful Movement and A Dynamic Embodiment® Approach to the Sun Salutation, which she co-authored with Shakti Andrea Smith.
Over three decades, she's passionately bridged somatics with social change, training Certified Teachers of BodyMind Dancing and Moving For Life Certified Instructors globally. She co-founded Moving On Center and Moving For Life DanceExercise for Health®, serving older adults and those affected by cancer or chronic illnesses.

Dynamic Embodiment® is a form of somatic education and movement therapy developed by Dr. Martha Eddy, that integrates skilled touch, movement, & compassionate dialogue through a unique combination of social justice and creative movement to help people of all ages and abilities to relieve their own stress, find enhanced expressiveness, and balance all aspects of the body and psyche. It is a synthesis of some of the finest forms of somatic education: the language of human movement – Laban Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentals which teach movement efficiency and Body-Mind Centering® which helps to bring consciousness to all parts of the body.

6:30-8:30pm - BodyMind Dancing™ : Join somatic dance pioneer Dr. Martha Eddy for an anatomically informed, holistic dance experience that integrates movement sensitivity, easy-going follow-along phrases, and skill building with improvisation. Diverse dance styles and movement traditions are woven into the BMD experience!
6:30-7:30pm - BMD Class
7:30-8:30pm - Stay to learn more anatomy and the goals of BMD!
No dance experience necessary - all movements are adaptable to your body and energy level.

Friday, August 1
10:00-10:30am - Parent and Tot Dance Class: Join Candice for a dance class suited for children aged 2-4 years old and their accompanying grown-ups. Informed by developmental movement and organized around foundational dance concepts, everybody will learn through play and connection. Participants develop body awareness, coordination, and social, and motor skills through creative movement activities with props, rhymes, and music.

10:30-1:30pm - Nurturing the Next Generation: Dynamic Embodiment® Applications for Children: In this session, participants will explore how Dynamic Embodiment techniques can be used in therapeutic and educational settings working with children. Whether it's for professionals or parents, this session explores how the Dynamic Embodiment approach integrates motor development, nervous system regulation, and interpersonal awareness to facilitate physical and cognitive growth in children and joy and creativity in the people that support them. The session will be hands-on and practical, tailored to life experiences/case studies emergent from within the group.
3:00pm-6:00pm - Care for Caregivers: Dynamic Embodiment® for Self and Community Care
This session is designed for those who care for or work with children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses of any age, or are in any other caregiving role. Participants will gain insights into how a somatic approach can support the physical and emotional experience of their responsibilities. DE techniques can help prevent burnout, and can balance exertion with built in recuperation. Whether you're a therapist, a teacher, or someone in the "sandwich generation" caring for both children and aging parents, this session guides you to embody self-compassion and create sustainable practices for long-term well-being.
Saturday August 2
10am-1pm - Dynamic Embodiment of the Sun Salutations: Sun Salutations aren’t just a sequence of poses; they are an embodied ritual connecting body, breath, and energy. In this class Martha will guide participants to explore the connections between NeuroDevelopmental practice, the endocrine system and the chakra system. As you learn to engage with or modify the positions within the Sun Salutation integrating awareness of glandular and chakral embodiment cues and neuro-developmental movement brings more ease . Everything in this class can be applied to your personal practice and overall health, or to teaching others. 2:30-5:30 - Dynamic Embodiment Approaches to Aging: This session will focus on the applications of hands-on techniques of Dynamic Embodiment for older adults. It will incorporate approaches that are gentle yet effective for addressing common needs and concerns of aging, including mobility, flexibility, strength and vitality. The session will be hands-on and practical, tailored to the individuals present in the group.

Moving for Life’s DanceExercise for Health® classes use gentle aerobic exercise to motivate older adults and people of different ages and abilities affected by cancer. These classes help boost mental and physical health while carefully increasing energy, range of motion, lymphatic flow, joint ease, mental acuity, balance, calorie burning, and strengthening.
